Scotiabank Community Program
Monetary Assistance for Hurricane Dean Relief Effort
Scotiabank Dominica was determined to make a contribution toward alleviating the plight of citizens who had been adversely affected as a result of Hurricane Dean. And so, on September 7, 2007, the Bank made a presentation of $50,000 XCD to the Disaster Preparedness Unit and $17,500 XCD to the Dominica Red Cross.
Scotiabank announced that it contributed $500,000 USD towards relief efforts in the Caribbean and Latin America, with the majority of the funds being forwarded to the countries hardest hit. Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit praised Scotiabank for this tremendous gesture, which he says will assist in the rehabilitation efforts after the passing of Hurricane Dean. In attendance to receive the donations were Disaster Preparedness Coordinator Mr. Cecil Shillingford and Mrs. Kathleen Pinard-Byrne of the Dominica Red Cross.
